Chan Lin Quits School Board

“My decision to resign was not made lightly, and is for personal reasons,” she wrote.
“As I do not wish my resignation to be a distraction from the important work the District faces in the coming months, I do not plan to make any further statements about my resignation,” she also said.
“I wish the District and the Board the best of luck. May they have the courage and wisdom to serve the students of San Marino Unified School District well.”
Chan Lin’s departure left the board with only three members. On May 11, Corey Barberie resigned from the panel in anticipation of a family move to another state.
A graduate of San Marino High School and resident of the city for more than 30 years, Chan Lin filed for the position on Aug. 7, the deadline to throw her hat in the ring. She was joined by Doreen Summers, rounding out a five-candidate field for the two board seats that were being vacated by Lisa Link and Chris Norgaard, who chose not to run. Chan Lin and Jane Chon prevailed in the Nov. 3 election in which candidates included Michael Killackey and Jesse Hong, though not by a huge margin. Chan Lin received 2,608 votes to Killackey’s 2,516 in the election when the results were certified by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office. Chon was the leading vote-getter among the five candidates, with her name marked on 3,590 ballots. Killackey led Chan Lin on election night by a count of 2,022 to 2,003, but as the count proceeded in the following weeks the latter moved ahead to claim the second seat.
Please see the accompanying story, which explains the SMUSD’s options for replacing Barberie and Chan Lin.
