Due to the resignation of board member Mrs. Nam Jack, the San Marino Unified School District currently has a vacancy on its Board of Education until the next San Marino Unified School District regular election scheduled to be held on November 8, 2022. At the May 24, 2022 Board of Education Meeting, the Board voted to initiate filling the vacancy by a provisional appointment from among qualified applicants.
The Board is requesting all those interested in serving on the school board to submit an application. The application is available at www.smusd.us From May 26, 2022 at noon through Friday, June 3, 2022 at noon. The Board of Education will screen, confirm the eligibility of the applications, and take public comments at a Special Board of Education Meeting on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 3:00 PM. Eligible applicant names will be announced on the morning of Tuesday, June 7, 2022 via Constant Contact. On Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 5:00 PM at a Special Board of Education Meeting candidates will be interviewed by the Board and a provisional candidate will be sworn in.
To be eligible to apply for appointment to the Board of Education, an individual must meet the following qualifications as set forth in Education Code 35107: 18 years of age or older, California resident, residing within the SMUSD boundaries, be a registered voter, not be disqualified from holding a civil office, and no criminal convictions per Government Code Sections 1770, 3000-3003.
This provisional appointee will hold office until December 2, 2022. An employee of the San Marino Unified School District may not be sworn into office as an elected or appointed member of the Board, unless he or she resigns as an employee. If the employee does not resign, the employment will automatically terminate upon being sworn into office.
