Rotary Honors Military Academy Appointees

The 18th annual Rotary luncheon recognized local military service academy appointees. The event was co-chaired by San Marino Rotarians Aaron Gil and Bill Payne. San Marino’s Bob Dini led off the festivities by singing several patriotic songs.

The keynote speaker at the luncheon was Joseph B. McMullin, a 1979 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, who told the appointees and their families what can be expected during the first few months of academy life.

The Rotary Club of San Marino honored five students who are heading to national military academies at a recent meeting. Jaden Liu (from left) and Georgina Buchanan will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy; Davorah Ann Strober will attend the U.S. Naval Academy; U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu from the 27th Congressional District, who nominated several of the appointees; Carl Kaye, who spoke on behalf of his son, Nathaniel, who is also attending the U.S. Naval Academy; and Ava Nanami Bryden, who is also attending the U.S. Air Force Academy.
