Carver Student Leads Walk for Children’s Hospital

Carver Elementary School’s Leo Helmy held his second San Marino Cares Walk to benefit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles at Lacy Park on April 23.
Helmy, 11, is currently a 5th-grader who is looking forward to being a 6th-grader at Huntington Middle School.
Forty fellow residents participated in the walk, which raised $4,000 for the hospital.
The top three donors were George and Demi Yu, the Watlington family, and Lauren Shen and her family.
“CHLA is such an amazing hospital and I feel so proud to speak in front of my friends and neighbors as an official junior ambassador for the hospital,” Helmy said when he spoke to the participants. “Thanks to everyone who came to my second annual fundraiser benefiting CHLA. I cannot wait to see you all next year at Lacy Park.”
Food and refreshments were supplied by Tony’s Pizza, Randy’s Donuts and Susie Cakes, with coffee courtesy of the Starbucks on Huntington Drive. The event was sponsored by Stepping Stones.
