San Marino Boys’ Water Polo Makes Waves at Troy Invitational

The San Marino High School varsity boys’ water polo team competed in the Troy Invitational between Sept. 22 and 23 and finished with a 2-2 record.

The Titans secured a convincing 20-4 victory over Rio Mesa High of Oxnard in a tournament game on Sept. 23 as freshman Nathan Chan and Howard Huang each finished with five goals.

Diego Joaquin Garcia, Jack Li and Aidan Chan each scored twice, while junior Nathan Chan, Daniel Chen, Jonathan Zhang and Nathan Sun each added one goal.

SMHS opened tournament play with a 12-10 loss against Santiago High of Corona on Sept. 22.

Chen tallied three goals, freshman Nathan Chan, Huang and Joaquin Garcia each scored two goals, and Li had one goal.

The Titans also posted a 15-6 victory over Roosevelt High of Eastvale, but suffered a narrow 15-14 loss to Arcadia. Individual statistics were not reported to the San Marino Tribune.

San Marino (7-3 overall) hosted La Cañada (6-8) in a Rio Hondo League game on Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. and will host South Pasadena on Oct. 3.
