San Marino Boys’ Water Polo Makes Waves at Claremont Tournament

The San Marino High School varsity boys’ water polo team competed in the Claremont Tournament and finished with a 1-3 record after losing to Classical Academy High in Escondido, 13-11, and Brea Olinda High, 13-11, on the final day of action on Oct. 7.

The Titans lost to Troy High of Fullerton in overtime 12-11 to end the first day of tournament play on Oct. 6.

Daniel Chen scored four goals, while freshman Nathan Chan recorded three goals. Meanwhile, junior Nathan Chan, Aidan Chan, Howard Huang and Kevin Benitez each added one goal.

San Marino picked up an 18-10 victory over Xavier Prep of Palm Desert in its tournament opener on Oct. 6 as Chen scored nine goals.

Huang tallied four goals, junior Nathan Chan contributed three goals, and Nathaniel Mathis and Benitez each chipped in with one goal.

The Titans defeated visiting South Pasadena 17-10 in a league game on Oct. 3 as Huang tallied nine goals.

Freshman Nathan Chan and Chen each finished with three goals, while junior Nathan Chan and Aidan Chan each scored one goal.

The Titans (12-6 overall, 4-0 in league) will host Monrovia for a league game on Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. before visiting La Cañada on Oct. 17.
