Looking Ahead: San Marino High Sports

A host of San Marino High School sports teams will return to Rio Hondo League action next week. Here’s a look at what’s in store for the Titans.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Following nonleague contests against Flintridge Prep and West Covina this week, the Titans (16-2 overall, 1-1 in Rio Hondo League) will host a pair of Rio Hondo League matchups.

San Marino returns to league action on Jan. 10 with a home game against Blair at 7 p.m., and hosts Temple City on Jan. 12 with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

The Titans will resume Rio Hondo League play with a pair of home games. San Marino (9-6 , 1-1) hosts Blair High on Jan. 10 at 5:30 p.m., and will face Temple City High on Jan. 12, also at 5:30 p.m. The Titans close out the first round of league matchups with a road game to La Cañada High on Jan. 17, before once again taking on South Pasadena High on Jan. 19, this time at home. Both contests will have a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

The Titans are off to a hot start with a 5-1 overall record and a 1-1 league mark. San Marino dropped its first contest of the season to Rio Hondo League leaders Monrovia High before the extended break period. Before that, the Titans topped reigning champions South Pasadena High for their fifth straight win.

San Marino, the top-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division V polls, returns to the pitch on with a set of road league matches, starting with a trip to Blair High on Jan. 10 with a 4 p.m. kick-off, followed by an away match at Temple City High on Jan. 12 at 4 p.m.

BOYS’ SOCCER

The Titans will look to end their five-game losing streak coming out of the break in a league matchup at home against Blair High on Jan. 10 at 4 p.m. Another home game will follow for San Marino as the Titans play host to Temple City High on Jan. 12 at 4 p.m.

San Marino’s last victory came on Nov. 28 in a 1-0 win over La Salle in a nonleague contest. The Titans (1-7, 0-2) have dropped their two league matches against South Pasadena and Monrovia, both on the road.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

A young Titans squad will look to capture their first Rio Hondo League win of the season in a match at home against South Pasadena High on Jan. 9 at 4 p.m. San Marino will then travel to Blair High for an away league contest on Jan. 11 at 4 p.m.
